Helen Tumelty was born in England, and having lived in several different countries has been residing in Cyprus since 1999. As a little girl in North Africa she was fascinated by the Roman mosaic floors in the ancient sites of Leptis Magna and Sabratha. Thirty years later she made her first mosaic and has been hooked on the art ever since. Her favourite medium is vitreous glass and ceramic tesserae but she also uses stained glass, mirror, broken china and beads. She makes anything that takes her fancy from mirrors, tables, pictures and bowls and will undertake commissions.
Helen has a studio in the centre of Larnaca town (known in ancient times as Kition) and as well as displaying her works she sells mosaic supplies and runs courses for beginners.
Her studio is often filled with her ex-students working on their own projects in a lively and idea-exchanging environment. Visitors are always made welcome and will be encouraged to have a go themselves!
